New to Caving?
Caving (also known as spelunking) is exploring the wild world beneath your feet – the caves, tunnels, and hidden chambers that most people walk right over without ever knowing they’re there. One minute you’re squeezing through a gap you swore you wouldn’t fit through, the next you’re standing in a chamber the size of a cathedral, staring at formations that took hundreds of thousand of years to grow and that maybe a handful of humans have ever seen.
You’ll crawl, wade, scramble, and descend into the dark like something out of an adventure film. It’s part puzzle, part playground, part expedition, and the light on your helmet is the only thing between you and total darkness. No two trips are the same. You don’t need to be a superhero – just up for getting a bit dirty and curious about what’s down there. Caving is an experience like no other…but make sure you’re not claustrophobic.

Welcome to the Cascade Grotto! We are a caving society open to everyone. All you need is a desire for adventure!
Sitting on the fence? Don’t want to take the plunge and sign up for a trip, but want to learn more? Come along to one of our social events or monthly club meetings to chat to some cavers and learn more.
Not feeling like going underground? We occasionally run non-caving trips throughout the year including canyoning, hiking, and other social events.
