Cascade Grotto

Washington State’s chapter of the National Speleological Society.

As a volunteer, non-profit organization, the Cascade Grotto has promoted caving through recreation, education, and conservation in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States since 1951. 

Grotto meetings are open to the public in the Seattle area with a hybrid call-in option.

What we do

Trips

The grotto sponsors cave trips around the state year-round. Grotto trips are a great way to connect with members of the caving community and get underground!

Training

Practice essential caving skills as well as vertical rope techniques at Grotto skill-building events

Education

Learn about “clean caving” techniques and how to properly decontaminate your caving gear and clothing to prevent the spread of White-Nose Syndrome, a disease affecting bats, in Washington State.

Conservation

The grotto supports cave conservation and citizen science efforts through education, outreach, and volunteer activities like the annual Ape Cave Clean-Up.
